Alan Shapiro will host a poetry reading at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. The reading, sponsored by the English department and the William Maness Fund, is free and open to the public.
Shapiro won the prestigious Kingsley Tufts Award for Poetry for “The Dead Alive and Busy.” He is the author of six books of poetry, including “Mixed Company,” which won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. His memoir, “The Last Happy Occasion,” was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Shapiro teaches at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The event takes the place of a scheduled reading the same evening by poet Jack Gilbert, who had to cancel his appearance at Elon.
