Class reunions, Phoenix football in Rhodes Stadium, the Alumni Gala and the return of the Homecoming parade on Friday afternoon are some of the highlights of Elon’s Homecoming Reunion Weekend, Oct. 29-31.
Homecoming activities are set to begin Friday, Oct. 29. Highlights of the day include the dedication of the Ella Darden and Elmon Lee Gray Political Science Pavilion, an alumni golf tournament, and the Department of Performing Arts’ presentation of “Jekyll and Hyde” in McCrary Theatre.
The homecoming parade will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29, featuring Elon’s marching band, The Fire of the Carolinas, as well as cheerleaders, alumni, faculty and other members of the Elon community. The parade begins at the Elon Community Church parking lot, proceeds east down Haggard Ave., then north on O’ Kelly Ave. to Phoenix Dr. The parade will end at Rhodes Stadium, where an 8 p.m. pep rally is scheduled, followed by fireworks at approximately 9 p.m.
Alumni will hear an update from President Leo M. Lambert and congratulate winners of this year’s alumni awards during an 11 a.m. session in Whitley Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 30. The Phoenix football team will host Western Carolina in a 2 p.m. game at Rhodes Stadium, where the halftime show will feature marching band alumni performing with “The Fire of the Carolinas,” Elon’s marching band. Saturday’s events will conclude with a final performance of “Jekyll and Hyde” at 7:30 p.m. and the alumni gala beginning at 8 p.m. The gala will feature the jazz band Big Bertha in McKinnon Hall.
On Sunday, Oct. 31, a gospel choir reception and worship service will start the day at 8:30 a.m. in the Center for the Arts. Deceased alumni will be honored during an alumni worship service at 10:30 a.m. at Elon Community Church. Homecoming activities conclude with a women’s soccer game against Appalachian State at 2:00 p.m. at Rudd Field.
