Jordan is November’s country of the month on campus, the third of the year as part of a program sponsored by the Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies. Beginning with Japan in September and continuing with Spain last month, information on the featured country will be available at selected College Coffees, in printed brochures, and on E-Net.

Elon faculty members have had Jordanian expertise and experiences:
- Jim Pace, professor of religion, has been conducting archaeological research since 1979. He is part of a team of 14 researchers who surveyed the Larak Plateau of Jordan, near the Dead Sea. Pace is also the co-director of a project operating under the auspices of the Department of Antiquities of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
- Juliane Hammer, assistant professor of religious studies, speaks Arabic and conducted research from 1992-1999 about Palestinian refugees living in Jordan. She is co-author, with Helena Lindholm-Schulz, of “The Palestinian Diaspora: Formation of Identities and Politics of Homeland.” Hammer also teaches four courses on Islam at Elon.
Laith Majali, a senior international student from Jordan, is an active part of Elon’s campus life. He was the first recipient of the King Hussein scholarship in 2001. Laith’s talents in the area of photography and film have been well recognized at Elon and abroad. Currently, he is editing a documentary on the 25th anniversary of the Arab Children’s Congress, where he interviewed Queen Noor of Jordan and Angelina Jolie.
