Business Fellows sell Elon Collectibles

If you’re having trouble picking out the perfect gift this holiday season, a group of Jefferson Pilot Business Fellows at Elon University can give you some ideas.

Using techniques they learned in their business classes, Kathryn Bristol, Carly Johnston, Christopher Wakefield and Jenna Wheeler are marketing Elon Collectibles, small ornament-type items depicting Elon mainstays such as Alamance building, the Phoenix, and the acorn and oak leaf. The collectibles were started during the 2003-2004 academic year as a project by senior Jefferson Pilot Business Fellows in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.

Bristol says she and her classmates have learned a great deal about the real world of business through their work with Elon Collectibles.

“All those things we learned in our classes that we thought were so tedious are being put to good use now,” says Bristol. “We’ve had to make decisions about pricing, how much and when we want to discount our prices, organization, management and accounting. Elon is always focused on experiential learning, and this is a great example of that.”

The items are sold at the Elon Campus Shop and during home football games. They are also available by e-mailing jps@elon.edu. Prices are: Alamance building ($15), the Phoenix ($10) and the acorn and oak leaf ($7). Order all three and pay only $27, more than a 15 percent discount.
