LSM class organizes two fundraising events

The Programming and Events Management class, taught by Hal Walker, associate professor of leisure/sport management, organized an Adventure Race on Nov. 12 and a Music Festival on Nov. 19.

The Adventure Race was a series of on-campus timed challenges in teams of four. Challenge examples: putting together a large plywood puzzle; a haystack search; a canoe obstacle course; a trivia challenge; consume a large pizza; consume a gallon of milk; human bowling; and a variety of other physical and mental challenges. The weather was absolutely dreadful – pouring rain all day, however, 13 spirited teams showed up and a great time was had by all.

The other half of the class organized a Music Festival. The theme was “use the night to stop the fight” in support of our cause ~ Family Abuse Services.  The Music Festival took place on Friday, Nov. 19 with 4 live bands performing.  The bands volunteered their time to perform and they were: The Audrey Ball Band; Chubby Clark Band, Anonymous and Arbor Lane.

This year’s class decided to donate proceeds to Family Abuse Services in Burlington.  The amount raised for FAS was $700 with the attached class photo of the group extending the check to Joy Ciriano the Executive Director of Family Abuse Services on Tuesday Dec. 7.

Since Fall 2002, encompassing 7 events, the LSM 227 class has raised approximately $8,500 for various local charities.
