Jerry Tolley, director of annual giving and former head football coach at the university, has published his third book of football practice drills. Titled “The Complete Book of Defensive Football Drills,” the book includes detailed illustrated drills from some of the game’s most well known coaches, including Pete Carroll, Chuck Amato, Nick Saban, Dennis Green, Jimmy Johnson, Frank Beamer, Woody Hayes, and Mack Brown.
Tolley selected defensive drills from football coaches who have demonstrated their excellence at the college and professional level. The book also includes sports medicine, medical, legal, and summer two-a-day practice guidelines as a supplement to the defensive drills.
The book includes a foreword from Mack Brown, head coach at the University of Texas. The book is dedicated to the players, coaches, managers, trainers, and administrators who played for and supported Elon football during Tolley’s tenure as head coach from 1977-1981.
He led Elon to two NAIA national championships in 1980 and 1981 and won 49 of 62 games during his five seasons as head coach. He received a lifetime membership award from the American Football Coaches Association and was honored with the Laurel Wreath award in 2002, the highest honor given by the State of North Carolina for achievement in athletics. In 2003 The All-American Football Foundation presented Tolley with the Johnny Vaught Head Coach Lifetime Achievement Award.
Published by Coaches Choice, the book is available for $21.95 at www.coacheschoice.com, or by calling (888) 229-5745.
