Bathanti is the author of four poetry books including This Metal, which was nominated for the National Book Award. His first novel, East Liberty, won the 2001 Carolina Novel Award. He will discuss the process of composition and revision, where stories and poems come from, and how to strike the necessary balance between aesthetic distance and intimacy. He will also examine issues of maintaining writing habits, what Flannery O’Connor called “the habit of being.”
This presentation is made possible through a grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council’s Humanities Forum, a Speakers Bureau of the NCHC.
