Juliane Hammer, assistant professor of religious studies, has published a new book titled “Palestinians Born in Exile: Diaspora and the Search for a Homeland.”
Hammer’s book is based on her interviews with young Palestinians between the ages of 16 and 35 who were born in exile before emigrating to the Palestinian homeland. The book focuses on the unique experience these Palestinians have in returning to a homeland they have never known. What they know about Palestine has been shaped by forces in the countries where they grew up, and frequently, their values and lifestyles are in stark contrast to fellow Palestinians who grew up in the homeland.
