Nineteen Elon Teaching Fellows had the unique opportunity to meet with Education Secretary Rod Paige on his final day in office Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Paige, who had earlier announced he would step down from the post at the end of President Bush’s first term in office, spent an hour with the students discussing his philosophy about the Department of Education’s work and his work on the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Paige also spent time answering questions from the students.
The students are in Washington during Winter Term for POL 376, The Washington Center Experience. During the class, students meet a number of important and influential people on Capitol Hill, including legislators, administrators, lobbyists and media members.
