Jaime Orejan, assistant professor of leisure and sport management, wrote a letter to the editor which was printed in the Feb. 21 edition of the Sports Business Journal.
Orejan wrote in response to the increasing trend to schedule televised college football games on Friday nights. Scheduling college games on Friday nights is unpopular with high schools afraid of a drop in attendance at their football games.
“…it seems that ESPN is more interested in greed than the relative well-being of our youth and high school sports around the country simply because o the manner in which it takes advantage of sports leagues by forcing certain playing times and dates,” Orejan wrote. “…There are still other days during the week which can be used to televise college games, but give back the lights to prep football on Friday nights.”
