Poet Joseph Bathanti will try to make the process of writing poetry a little less scary during a presentation titled “Demystifying Poetry” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 29 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Bathanti is the author of four poetry books including “This Metal,” which was nominated for the National Book Award. His first novel, “East Liberty,” won the 2001 Carolina Novel Award. He will discuss the process of composition and revision, where stories and poems come from and how to strike the necessary balance between aesthetic distance and intimacy. He will also discuss the discipline needed to maintain good writing habits.
Bathanti’s presentation is made possible through a grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council’s Humanities Forum, a speakers bureau of the NCHC.
