Dear Student,
I am writing to let you know about an opportunity to participate in expanded housing at The Crest apartments. Residence Life is offering current resident students the opportunity to live in apartments at The Crest next year for the same cost of a single room on campus. This option is available to students assigned a double or single room in the residence halls for fall 2005. With increases in student retention and high demand for campus housing by returning students, we need some spaces in the residence halls for incoming freshmen.
Overview
- Apartments have four private bedrooms and private bathrooms, plus a living room, kitchen, microwave, and dishwasher. The clubhouse includes a fitness room, computer lab, and kitchen/meeting room.
- Students will pay the cost of a single room on campus, $2019 per semester, and may live at The Crest from August 20, 2005-May 17, 2006. The room charge will be included in your tuition bill, just as if you resided on campus.
- All utilities (cable, electric, internet), except local phone, are included in the single room rate.
- Sophomores in expanded housing must have a minimum of a 5 meals per week meal plan. Juniors and seniors are not required to have a meal plan, but are welcome to do so.
- The campus shuttle runs to the complex on a 15-minute route from 7am-7pm Monday through Friday.
- This option is available to all returning students signed up to live in single and double rooms for 2005-2006 in the following residence halls: Staley, Moffitt, Chandler, Colclough, Maynard, Jordan Center, West, Sloan, Virginia, Academic Village, Smith, Carolina, HBB, and Danieley Center. It is not open to students signed up to live in Danieley A-F or O&P, Haggard Square, Elon Place, or Young or Oak House.
How to Apply
- Residence Life will host an information meeting this Thursday, April 28, 5pm, in The Zone.
- Applications will be available at the meeting or at Residence Life and are due to Residence Life in Moseley 213 by 5pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2005.
- Once students apply, they will randomly be assigned a lottery number by the university’s datatel system. Groups will be given priority based on the lowest lottery number assigned to a member of their group. Students may assign a PROXY to submit their application.
- Students will be notified if they are accepted on Friday, May 6, 2005.
What You Can Do to Prepare
- Review The Crest’s website, http://www.thecrest-elon.com/ .
- Start talking to your family and friends about how this option might work for you.
- Because these are four bedroom apartments, we ask that you apply in groups of two or four students. If you are unable to find a group, you can meet students at the meeting or post an ad on e-net.
- Consider how you will get to and from campus. While the shuttle runs 7am-7pm, M-F, if you don’t have a car you will need to walk, cycle, or carpool at other times. Note: Students with cars are not restricted from driving to campus at any time.
Feel free to contact Residence Life at 336-278-7300 or in Moseley 213 with any questions.
Sincerely,
Jerrid P. Freeman
Associate Director for Residence Life Operations and Information Management
