University staff members gathered Thursday, May 26 to celebrate Staff Appreciation Day. The annual event included the presentation of several awards.
Three retiring staff members-Carol Brown, Penny Davis and Buddy Evans-were recognized during the program, held in Moseley Center. Also recognized were employees with 20, 30 and 40 years of service to the university.
After the always-popular staff video, President Leo M. Lambert presented the annual staff member of the year awards. Kim Giles, secretary in McMichael Science center, was named office staff member of the year. Utility distribution serviceman Wayne Brown was honored as the physical plant staff member of the year, while Ron Klepcyk, director of human resources, was named administrative staff member of the year.
The keynote speaker was John Alston, author of “Stuff Happens (and then you fix it).” Alston discussed the importance of a positive attitude in dealing with life’s challenges, and encouraged the audience not to take life and good relationships with co-workers for granted.
