Buechler to direct Elon MBA program

Scott Buechler has been named associate dean and director of the MBA program at Elon University’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Buechler will have administrative responsibility for the MBA program and the Jefferson Pilot Business Fellows program.

Buechler joined Elon in 2003 as associate dean of the Love School of Business. He served as director of the MBA program at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana from 1996 to 1999, and directed the MBA program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, from 1991 to 1996, where the program earned the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in 1994 for its innovative first-year curriculum.

Buechler earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin, an MBA degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a doctorate in English from the University of Utah.

Kevin O’Mara, who directed the MBA program since 1997, is returning to the classroom to teach full-time in the program. During O’Mara’s tenure, the MBA program and the Love School of Business received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. Elon was the only school in North Carolina to place in the top 3 teams in the statewide MBA case competition in each of the past 7 years, including a first-place finish in 2004.

“Over the past eight years, Kevin O’Mara has been responsible for increasing both the stature and quality of the Elon MBA program while ensuring the program is relevant to today’s complex business environment,” said John Burbridge, dean of the Love School of Business. “The success we have had in the statewide case competition demonstrates the quality of our students and curriculum. I am very confident we will continue this success under the capable direction of Scott Buechler.”
