Pranab Das, professor of physics, presented a paper titled “Discovered Properties: A Platonic Re-Analysis of Emergence” in Beijing on July 29. The paper was an invited presentation at the 22nd International Congress of the History of Science, a quadrennial meeting that draws together hundreds of international scholars in the history and philosophy of science. The last congress was held in Mexico City in 2001 and the next will be in Budapest in 2009.
Other invited presenters at Dr. Das’ session included Dr. Ron Numbers, the world’s foremost scholar of the Creationist movement, and Dr. John Hedley Brooke, the Andreas Idreos Professor of Science & Religion at Oxford University.
