This year's edition of U.S.News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" includes a lead story with a photo and quotes from Elon senior Katie Pesce and quotes from Susan Klopman, dean of admissions and financial planning. Details...
The cover story, carried in both the U.S. News college guide and the U.S. News & World Report weekly magazine, focuses on “first-rate” schools that are often not considered “household names” by status-conscious students and parents. Reporter Anne McGrath writes that solid “B” students can often get into what she calls “A+” schools.
The large feature photo that accompanies the story is of Pesce working with second-graders that she student-taught. McGrath writes that Pesce was looking for a school that would give her close contact with faculty: “At Elon, former professors often stop her (Pesce) on campus to say hello.”
McGrath writes that Susan Klopman encourages students with “B” averages to apply: “I might be very interested in a 3.2 student! I always tell parents, ‘Let us make the admissions decisions.'”
