The engaging ensemble Hesperus will accompany the presentation of Douglas Fairbanks’ 1922 silent film “Robin Hood” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus.
Hesperus, founded in 1979, will perform and sing medieval and renaissance works to complement the film. Innovative, historically informed and multicultural, the musical background to the film is performed on more than thirty period instruments. The ensemble’s Web site says, “Hesperus plays early music, folk music, and various combinations of the two. It presents European medieval, renaissance and baroque music; cultural portraits mixing early and traditional music of a particular country or region, and crossover programs fusing medieval, renaissance, Appalachian, gospel, blues, Cajun and Irish styles.”
Tickets for the performance are $12 or free for those with valid Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased at the McCrary Theatre box office by calling (336) 278-5610. The box office is open 12:30 p.m .-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
