Three winners have been named in Belk Library’s annual First Year Student Reading Contest.
New students were invited to enter the contest at the dessert reception on Aug. 29. To participate, students answered the question, “What is a book that you think all college students should read, and who wrote it?”
About 100 entries were received; the three winners were chosen at random. They are, left to right, Lindsey Bryant, Lisa Orth and Kristen McCarthy. Bryant won a $10 campus shop gift card for her entry, “Cosmos” by Carl Sagan. Orth won a $30 gift card; she chose “Emotional Intelligence” by Daniel Goleman. McCarthy won a $20 card for her selection of “Haunted” by Chuck Palahniuk.
The most popular books were “The Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown, the “Harry Potter” series by J.K. Rowling, “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom, and “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
