Musician Joe Thompson, whose fiddle playing has taken him to the Carnegie Hall stage, will perform at 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9 in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon University campus.
Thompson is one of North Carolina’s oldest and most celebrated musicians. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and received the coveted North Carolina Folklife Award. Believed to be the last well-known African American fiddle player in the state, Thompson will perform with Elon staff member Larry Vellani and other musicians. A brief film documentary, “The Life and Times of Joe Thompson,” produced by Thompson’s second cousin and former Elon English professor Iris Chapman, will be shown.
Sponsored by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life and the English Department, the event is free and open to the public.
