Bill Smith ’72 has been named 2005 Man of the Year by the Moore County (N.C.) Community Foundation. He received the award Oct. 23 in Southern Pines, N.C.
Smith returned to his home in Virginia after graduating from Elon to begin a career in the automotive industry. He later purchased the Ford dealership in Southern Pines and has been recognized as one of the company’s top producers. His dealership is the only five-time recipient of Ford’s Chairman’s Award.
Smith has been active in the Southern Pines community, serving on the boards of BB&T, Partners in Progress and the Chamber of Commerce. He is president of the Pinehurst Historical Foundation and a member of the Sandhills Kiwanis Club.
The Moore County Community Foundation supervises approximately $5 million in endowment funds. Annual grants benefit local non-profit organizations and causes.
