Drs. Tina Das, Casey DiRienzo, and Thomas Tiemann, all of the Economics Department, have had their article, “A Note on An Ethnic Homogeneity Kuznets’ Curve” accepted for publication in Challenge. The article finds and explains an inverse-U-shaped relationship (“A Kuznets’ Curve” to economists) between the ethnic homogeneity and per capita income of nations. The basic idea is that less developed nations will find it easier to grow economically if there is greater homogeneity since disagreement and suspicion among groups reduce growth. Highly developed nations will have faster growth if there is less homogeneity since a diversity of ideas and points of view will promote innovation.
