Faculty members Deborah Long and Mark Rumley in the Department of Education have been selected to present a session at the National Association of Year-Round Education’s (NAYRE) national conference, to be held in San Diego in late February. They will be joined by co-presenter Cathy Rumley, principal of North Graham Elementary School, to discuss how Elon University teacher candidates’ field placements, required in a second-level methods course, have become transformative experiences, offering value-added and high-quality preparation for these emerging educators. The presentation will also highlight various service-learning projects that teacher candidates have completed since this project’s inception, will focus on the impact upon K-5 student learning as a direct result of teacher candidates’ work in classrooms, and will show how a year-round calendar allows for a creative and effective university-school partnership.
