The award was recently established to recognize faculty members who make outstanding contributions to The Washington Center, which provides internships and academic seminars in the nation’s capital to college students. Since 1993, Anderson has been active in the center’s academic seminar program, which offers intensive, two-week classes in January and May.

Students in the program have a variety of experiential learning opportunities, visit numerous government agencies and meet with key officials and decision-makers on Capitol Hill.

“Bob has made a long and significant contribution to our program,” says Gene Alpert, senior vice president of The Washington Center. “He is tireless in his efforts on behalf of students, and his students are consistently motivated by his classes.”

Anderson has been a member of the Elon faculty since 1984. He has studied African politics extensively, as well as American foreign policy toward Africa.
