Basirico has done extensive research on family reunions. He has written for Reunions Magazine and been quoted in newspaper articles on familiy reunions in The Arizona Republic, The Boston Globe and The Wall Street Journal. A member of the Elon faculty since 1983, Basirico also wrote an op-ed piece for the Greensboro News & Record in 2000 about becoming a father again at age 50.
