The Rev. Charles Brooks, president of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ, was recently appointed to the Elon University Board of Trustees as an ex officio member. A resident of Garner, N.C., Brooks is a graduate of St. Augustine’s College and Virginia Union School of Theology.
Brooks has served as pastor of Poplar Springs United Church of Christ in Raleigh, N.C., since 1990. Under his leadership, the congregation has grown in membership from 150 to 900, and the church completed a $1.5 million addition in 1996.
