The Common Reading committee has announced its selection for the Fall 2003 common reading. “Falling Leaves: The True Story of an Unwanted Chinese Daughter,” is written by Adeline Yen Mah, who was born in 1937 to a privileged Chinese family. She overcame cruelty and emotional abuse from her Eurasian stepmother, eventually becoming a physician and writer.
Yen Mah has accepted the Common Reading committee’s invitation to visit Elon in November, when she will speak to students, faculty and staff.
The committee is also accepting suggestions for the 2004 common reading. If you have a suggestion, send the author’s name and title of the book to Monica Parson, chair of the Common Reading committee, at mparson@elon.edu.
