Elon Professor is Published in News & Record

An op-ed piece written by Mary Jo Festle, associate professor of history, appeared in the March 4 edition of the Greensboro News & Record. Details...

Festle discusses the role women have played throughout history in the article, which appeared on the front page of the Ideas section. Festle points out that the social revolution of the 1960s resulted in a fundamental change in the way historians approached the study of history. As a result, new fields of study emerged, such as women’s studies and African-American history.

Festle is director of Elon’s women’s/gender studies program and a board member of the Women’s Resource Center in Alamance County. She authored a 1996 book titled, “Playing Nice: Politics and Apologies in Women’s Sports.”
