Stotler, 47, a veteran of the Vietnam and Gulf wars and the Honduran conflict, is participating in a vocational rehabilitation program. He is a three-time cancer survivor. Rivas, a junior creative writing and communications major, met Stotler in class. Her story ran with two color photos on the cover of the paper’s Accent section.
