Five students led by School of Communications staff member Leah Kessler were featured in a story in the Montgomery Advertiser on their research about media coverage of the civil rights movement. Details...
The students went to Alabama to interview civil rights leaders, reporters and photographers in Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma. They are producing a video documentary that will be made available to public television stations, colleges and libraries.
Many documentaries have focused on the civil rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s, but there has been little research on the journalists who covered the stories.
