Elon students respond to terrorism with forum

With words, music and artwork, Elon students reacted to the recent terrorist attacks with a unique program Nov. 27 titled "And Still We Rise: Words for Times Like These." Details...

Hosted by Rosa Johnson, niece and archivist of poet Maya Angelou, the program in Whitley Auditorium featured the works of Elon students in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Students offered essays, poems, personal letters and songs about the attacks, sharing their thoughts about the impact of the attacks on themselves, their classmates and the world.

Johnson told an audience of approximately 200 people that words are particularly important during these turbulent times. “What happened on Sept. 11 impacted us all, but we need to hear the voice of the young people, because it is your future we are living today.”
