Elon University has successfully completed the re-accreditation process by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Details...
President Leo M. Lambert received notification on Jan. 16 that the commission had reaffirmed the university’s accreditation with no follow-up report required.
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is the recognized regional accrediting body in eleven U.S. Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees. Schools conduct extensive reviews every ten years as part of the SACS accreditation process.
Elon conducted a self-study during the 2000-2001 academic year, determining compliance with SACS criteria. In addition, Elon simultaneously completed four focus reports, studying wholeness of the campus, centrality of the arts and sciences, connecting knowledge and experiences and technology.
“I wish to thank the dozens of faculty, staff and administrators who participated in this important process,” Lambert said. “Special acknowledgement goes to Dr. George Troxler, chair of the self-study, who has led Elon through three consecutive SACS accreditation processes. Special thanks also goes to Provost Gerald Francis, who coordinated the four focus reports.”
