Tom Erdmann, associate professor of music and education, has been quoted in a new book titled “The Mastery of Music, Ten Pathways to True Artistry,” by Barry Green.
Erdmann is quoted in a chapter titled “Confidence: From Innocence to Bravura to Integrity,” along with widely recognized performers such as Doc Severinsen and Clark Terry. The chapter focuses on the preparation of trumpet players, and how preparation is a key component of their confidence. Erdmann discusses the preparation techniques used by famous trumpeter Maynard Fergeson, and also talks about the wall of bravura good trumpeters build to protect themselves.
Green’s book explores “ten characteristics such as confidence, creativity, and relaxed concentration, and discusses specific ways in which all musicians, composers, and conductors can take their skills to higher levels.”
