In remembrance of Megan Tripp

Megan was taking part in a Winter Term study abroad program. She died about 2 a.m. Australia time Jan. 14 after a fall from a room balcony of the Rydges Cronulla Beach Hotel in Sydney, Australia, where her study group was staying. She was rushed to St. George Hospital where she died.

A “Book of Remembrances” is being prepared by the Elon Chaplain’s Office to present to Megan’s parents. If you have pictures, letters, academic work, etc., of Megan, please forward them to the Chaplain’s Office in Moseley 206 (ext. 7729) by Thursday, Jan. 18.

Megan’s family has made arrangements for a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at the First Lutheran Church, Route 6A, West Barnstable, Mass. Contact the Student Life office (209 Moseley; ext. 7200) by Wednesday if you are interested in attending the service. The Student Life office is coordinating travel arrangements.

Megan’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Megan Tripp Scholarship Fund, c/o Cape Cod Cooperative Bank, Rt. 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675.

Megan, 20, was a junior at Elon majoring in elementary education and a member of the golf team. She was the daughter of Carla Wieners, Barnstable, Mass., and Robert Tripp, Dry Ridge, Ky.

Megan was among 32 students enrolled in Australia study courses led by Peter Farmer, associate professor of leisure/sport management, and Barry Beedle, professor of physical education and sports medicine. The groups left for Australia January 8 and are scheduled to return January 27.

Professional counselors have met with the students on the trip and Jana Lynn Patterson, associate dean of students, has traveled to Australia to provide assistance.
