Dr. Cannon, who recently celebrated her 97th birthday, wrote a first-person reflection on her life experiences for the magazine. She explains that she met her husband, Claude Cannon, at Elon, and she has enjoyed a lifelong association with the university,
“…my continued involvement with this wonderful education institution reinforces daily my strong belief that we need to think globally and act locally. Through my work with the Center for International Studies, I meet students and professors from all over the world. My contact with the Leadership Fellows program there has introduced me to young people so inspiring that I cannot wait to see what their work will bring our nation and our world. You cannot be around them without being fired up.”
