Nine focus groups have added their input in the search for Elon's new athletics identity. Read this note for details.
A total of 85 Elon faculty, staff, students, alumni and trustees participated in a special focus group process Dec. 2 as part of the search for a new athletics identity. The participants met in groups of 8-10 to give their opinions about the athletics program and react to a list of 68 possible names.
SME Powerbranding, the New York firm working with the college to find and design the new moniker and graphic images, conducted the sessions. SME Marketing Director Chris Marciani invited members of each group to work through a questionnaire, eliminating names they believed should not be considered and ranking their favorite names based on a number of characteristics.
The Athletics Identity Task Force is considering the results of the focus group sessions in the next phase of the process. The goal is to choose a name in early January, allowing SME to begin work on a graphic design package. Plans are to announce the new identity in May.
