Four new members were elected to the Elon College Board of Trustees during its annual spring meeting March 14-15.
Burney Jennings, Greensboro, a 1987 Elon graduate, is president of Biscuitville Inc. Chosen as Elon’s Young Alumnus of the Year in 1997, he has been an active supporter of the college, serving as class agent, reunion giving volunteer and member of both the Board of Visitors and National Alumni Executive Board. Jennings, the son of trustee emeritus Maurice Jennings, was recently appointed to the advisory board of the Burlington branch of the Bank of America.
Robert T. “Bobby” Drakeford, a 1986 alumnus from Huntersville, is a real estate developer with Trammell Crow Company, Charlotte. Formerly a member of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business Advisory Board and the National Alumni Executive Board, Drakeford is currently on the board of the Charlotte Arts and Science Council and a trustee of the Charlotte Fire Fighters Retirement Fund. He has a master’s of business administration degree from Wake Forest University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Mari Behrend Straub, 1982 alumnae from Great Falls, Va., is a freelance journalist and homemaker. She currently serves on the National Alumni Executive Board and was a reunion giving volunteer.
Walter Campbell “Cam” Tims was elected youth trustee. A student leader in the Kernodle Center for Service Learning, Tims interned with Ernst & Young Management Consultancy Services, London, in spring 1998. He will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in May 2000 and will begin a career as an accounting analyst for IBM in the Research Triangle Park. Tims is the son of James and Frances Tims, Cleveland, Miss.
Four trustees emeritus were also elected by the board. They are Janie Reece, Greensboro; Elmon Gray, Waverly, Va.; Leroy Howell, Suffolk, Va.; and W. E. Love, Jr., Burlington.
