Students pursuing a master’s degree in education will be able to complete their studies in three summers, thanks to a new program that will be launched June 11 at Elon University.
The Elon Summer Cohort Master of Education (M.Ed.) program will allow students to complete a master’s degree by attending three summer sessions and taking two or three online courses during the normal academic year. The program is part of Elon’s new strategy to offer a reduced price M.Ed. in a setting more convenient to students than the traditional academic year program.
International teachers who are teaching in the United States as part of the Visiting International Faculty (VIF) program will participate in Elon’s summer cohort program. Based in Chapel Hill, N.C., VIF recruits international teachers for schools throughout the United States. Greg Zaiser, associate dean of admissions at Elon, says the partnership with VIF will beneficial for everyone.
“The mix of students in the classroom will be nice,” says Zaiser. “We hope to include international faculty from South America and Central America in the first class.”
Focused on elementary and special education, Elon’s M.Ed. program is part of an education department that enjoys an outstanding reputation. Elon has produced two North Carolina Teachers of the Year and a national Teacher of the Year. In addition, Elon is part of the prestigious North Carolina Teaching Fellows program.
