The work of an Elon University Public Policy class was featured on WGHP-TV’s evening newscast Oct. 27.
Students in Betty Morgan’s class staged “Boo at the Zoo” Oct. 27-28 at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. The event offered Halloween fun and games for children at the zoo. Morgan and several students were interviewed for the story, which aired during the 10 p.m. newscast.
The class has been assisting the zoo with various projects over the past few months, as state budget cuts have forced the zoo to cut staff hours and program offerings. Elon students have helped to fill some of the gaps in zoo staffing, and have provided assistance with special events which otherwise would have been casualties of the budget cuts.
In return, zoo staff members have taught students about daily management of the zoo and the intricacies of the state budget process.
