WFMY (CBS), WGHP (FOX), WXII (NBC) and WXLV (ABC) also provided television coverage of the turf work, which is expected to continue through July 3.
A total of 106,000 square feet of Tifsport Bermuda grass is being laid on the playing surface at the new Rhodes Stadium. Two truckloads of the sod, which has been harvested over the last 18 months at Oakland Plantation in Council, N.C., are being delivered to the stadium site each day. Approximately 10,000-12,000 square feet of sod are placed daily in individual strips measuring 42″ x 50′.
Rhodes Stadium will open Sept. 15, when the Phoenix host Eastern Kentucky University.
