Both Digre, professor of history, and the students he is leading during the Winter Term course were surprised by the honor.
The ceremony included songs and dancing, and the men in the community raised Digre on their shoulders. Digre was eventually seated in a place of honor. Students videotaped and took pictures of the event.
Elon has offered a Winter Term course in Ghana for the past several years. Students and faculty have visited Ho and made donations to the community.
