Jim Houlik, one of the world’s most acclaimed tenor saxophonists, will visit Elon University’s Whitley Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9 for a guest recital.
Houlik is professor of saxophone at the Duquesne University School of Music in Pittsburgh. His work has been instrumental in the development and presentation of classical music for the tenor saxophone, resulting in the composition of more than 80 new concert works for the instrument.
Houlik has performed around the world, including solo performances with orchestras in London, Prague, Istanbul, Berlin, Chicago, Phoenix, and New York, and a performance in the White House for President Clinton. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center and London’s Barbican.
Sponsored by the Department of Music, Houlik’s recital is free and open to the public.
