Alumnus makes $1 million planned gift to support endowment

An Elon alumnus has made a $1 million planned gift to the university, which will eventually become part of the endowment and support scholarships, professorships and other initiatives to sustain

academic excellence at Elon.

The donor, who asked to remain anonymous, said he valued his education and wanted to give back to his alma mater to help make an Elon education available to students of diverse backgrounds.

The gift, called a charitable remainder unitrust, enables the donor to receive income tax benefits and an income for life, based on the market value of the gift. Once payments cease, the remainder of the gift becomes part of Elon’s endowment.
