The complex will include six residence hall buildings plus a commons building. The first four buildings, which will open Aug. 15, will house 348 students. The final two buildings will open Dec. 15, and will house 168 students.
Demolition of Jordan Center will begin following Commencement this spring.
The apartment configurations will include units with two single bedrooms, two baths, a living room and kitchen; and units with four single bedrooms, two baths, a living room and kitchen. All units will be furnished, with washers and dryers and full access to the campus computer network. The commons building will include a living room, meeting rooms, a community kitchen and offices. The site will also include over 500 parking spaces, an outdoor sand volleyball court and a picnic area.
All utilities (electricity, phone, internet, gas, and cable) will be included as part of the total cost. Cable jacks will be included in every bedroom.
Each apartment will have a washer and dryer, a full kitchen, and be furnished. The type of furniture has not yet been determined. Students can bring in other furniture, but the furniture supplied cannot be removed. All floors throughout the apartment will be carpeted, except the kitchen.
The apartments will have professional (Assistant Director and Secretary) and student staff (Housing Assistants) living and working in the area to assist the students who live there.
The Commons Building will be completed for fall semester. The Commons Building first floor will have meeting space, lounge space, a pool table, a public kitchen, computer hook ups, and a colonnade on the back. The second floor will have The Oaks Area Office and more meeting space.
