Almost 100 washers and dryers in campus residence halls have been replaced with newer models which have received the Energy Star rating for energy efficiency. Details...
During the Christmas break, 97 washers and dryers in on-campus housing facilities were replaced with high efficiency Energy Star-rated equipment. All units were replaced with the exception of Jordan Center; new units will be installed in The Oaks, currently under construction, which will replace Jordan Center.
By replacing the older machines with new Energy Star-rated equipment, the university continues to address concerns about environmental sustainability. It is estimated that with this move alone, more than $18,000 will be saved in utility costs, including water, electricity and natural gas during a one-year period. The front-loading washers will use less water and spin clothes better which results in less electricity and natural gas for drying.
