A story about the AIDS crisis in Africa and a recent summit in Namibia to address the topic, organized by Periclean Scholars at Elon, was featured on the CNN International program "Inside Africa" Saturday, Feb. 4. Details...
CNNI producer Paul Tilsley led the crew covering the story, which led off the program and ran approximately 5 minutes. The CNN crew interviewed Periclean Scholars Laura Iannacone and Ashley Moyer, as well as Project Pericles director Tom Arcaro.
Eleven Periclean Scholars joined Arcaro and Carolyn Nelson, associate director of university relations for design, for a three-week visit to Namibia during Winter Term. The Periclean Scholars worked with students from two Namibian universities to organize the Future Leaders Summit on HIV/AIDS, held Jan. 22-24 in the Namibian capital of Windhoek.
During their time in Namibia, the Elon delegation visited with local officials and residents in several towns and villages to learn firsthand about the impact AIDS/HIV is having on the country.
