David Crowe, professor of history, delivered the first Belton Y. Cooper Memorial Lecture at the University of Alabama in Birmingham on Feb. 23. Cooper is a prominent Birmingham businessman, community leader, and World War II hero who tells of his wartime expereinces in the highly aclaimed memoir, “Death Traps: The Survivial of an American Armored Division in World War II.” Crowe, who also spoke before a group of Jewish community leaders and appeared on several local TV and radio stations, discussed his biography of Oskar Schindler.
