Rogers to discuss religious freedoms and the court system, April 3

Melissa Rogers, visiting professor of religion and public policy at Wake Forest University Divinity School, will discuss religious freedoms and the courts during the H. Shelton Smith Lecture at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 3 in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon University campus. Sponsored by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, Rogers’ lecture is free and open to the public.

Rogers joined the Wake Forest faculty in 2003 after serving as executive director of the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life in Washington, D.C. She has also served as general counsel of the Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs. In 2004, Rogers was recognized by National Journal as one of the church-state experts “politicians will call on when they get serious about addressing an important public policy issue.”

Rogers has written numerous articles on the relationship between religion and government, and is currently co-authoring a book on religion and law for Baylor University Press. She earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Baylor University.
