Elon trustee Warren G. "Dusty" Rhodes was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during Spring Convocation for Honors Tuesday, April 4 in Koury Center. Details...
Rhodes and his wife, Peggy, are among the largest benefactors in Elon history. Their gifts provided key funding for the construction of Rhodes Stadium, the on-campus home of Phoenix football. The library and main lecture hall in McMichael Science Center, several rooms in Belk Library and the athletic training room in Koury Center have been named in honor of their contributions. The Rhodes have also supported a Kresge Foundation grant that will continue to provide the latest technology and equipment to students in McMichael Science Center.
“We didn’t make those gifts to have our name in headlines,” Dusty Rhodes said. “We made those gifts to help these wonderful students at Elon University.” He congratulated Dean’s List and President’s List students, along with the Class of 2006, for their recognition at Convocation. “This is your day,” Rhodes said.
Director of Athletics Alan White presented Rhodes, thanking him for his devotion and generosity to Phoenix athletics and the university community.
