Betty Morgan, associate professor of political science and public administration, represented Elon University at the William J. Fulbright Alumni Association Awards ceremony April 12. President Bill Clinton was awarded the William J. Fulbright Prize for International Understanding. The awards ceremony was held in Washington, D.C. at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Headquarters.
President Clinton’s award was jointly presented by UN Secretary Kofi Annan, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and former governor and senator from Arkansas, David Pryor. A formal reception was held after the awards ceremony where guests met the dignitaries and had an opportunity to view the statue “Tribute,” presented to the Clinton in recognition of his award.
The Fulbright Prize was established in 1993 by a grant from the Coca-Cola Corporation. Former prize laureates include former South African President Nelson Mandela, U.S. President Jimmy Carter, and former Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel.
