A family in Burlington is looking for one or two volunteer tutors for 2 children. The younger child is a boy who is in third grade and in serious jeopardy of being left back at the end of this year. He needs help in language arts and addition and subtraction. The second child is a girl who is in 6th grade. I used to tutor the girl when I went to Elon and know that she has a great work ethic and attitude and makes a lot of progress if you can work with her on a consistent basis (once or twice a week for about an hour). My schedule was somewhat lexible and I spent more or less time with her depending on how tired/awake she was and on how much she could concentrate (she has ADD but is on medication for it). She needs help in division and could probably benefit from some review of multiplication and also language arts work. She learns very well from flashcards.
You would need to provide your own transportation to their apartment in Burlington which is about a 10 minute drive from Elon. It’s a single parent family and the mother makes excellent Spanish rice as a perk!
If you are interested in tutoring either or both children, please email me at kristinasweet@gmail.com.
Thanks,
